The resort has taken its name from that monastery, which translates as ‘wooded valley.’ The resort began as a family holiday destination and has developed into a major ‘party capital,’ similar in nature to Ibiza. The village square is now the centre and features the majority of the resort’s clubs.
The Cyprus coast attracts large numbers of tourists, due to its golden sandy beaches and its facilities for water sports, including canoeing, scuba diving, speed-boating, waterskiing and windsurfing. The centre of Agia Napa, called ‘the square’ is overflowing with restaurants, clubs and shops, and for many visitors is the focal point of the resort’s entertainment scene.
