February/March Festivals
Green Monday: originated from a custom honouring the Greek god Dionysus, which involved people leaving their homes to visit the countryside where lavish picnics with seafood, local vegetables and lots of wine would symbolise the beginning of the 50 fasting days before Easter.

March/April Festivals
Easter: Greek Easter festivities begin on Good Friday evening, with the procession of the Epitaphios Holy Sepulchre. The next day, Holy Saturday, features midnight church services held in celebration of the resurrection of Christ. Traditionally, young people prepare a huge bonfire in the churchyard to symbolically burn Judas, the disciple who betrayed Jesus.
