If you’d like to try the local fare, a highly recommended choice is the typical Cypriot meze, which comprises anywhere from 15 to 30 different, bite-sized island treats.

There are a number of other local specialties also worth a try, including aphelia (a dish made of pork with red wine), moussaka (a sort of aubergine ‘lasagne’), stifado (a stew made of veal or beef), taramosalata (which is a dip made of cod rœe, lemon juice and olive oil), tsatsiki (which is another dip, made with cucumber, garlic, yoghurt and olive oil) and, for something sweet, loukoumades (doughnuts dipped in a syrup).
