Introduction to Protaras - Protaras Beach
Centred around the central beach of the same name, Protaras is a classic Cypriot seaside resort on the Mediterranean, with crystal azure waters. The area has become hugely popular in the past decade or so because of its proximity to Ayia Napa, an area that has fast become Cyprus' version of Ibiza and is today famous for its clubbing and dance music. Protaras is, however, more of a family resort. The different beaches in the centre of Protaras essentially meld into one, with Fig Tree Beach at the southeastern end and Sunrise Beach on the opposite, northern side. This developed area has no shortage of restaurants, bars, shops and cafés. Still, many areas that run right up to the sea remain gardens with no buildings in sight.
