Introduction to Kyrenia - City Centre
A picturesque harbour town on the northern coast of Cyprus, Kyrenia is a historic and cultural gem with its ancient 1,300-year-old castle perched close to the water and a host of museums and arts centres that attract throngs of tourists in the busy summer high season. The Shipwreck Museum is one of a handful of must-see sights here, a testament to a vessel dating back to the early 4th century that is so iconic it is imprinted on Cypriot bank notes. Also on display is some of the retrieved cargo, including almonds and olives. Once the main sites have been ticked off, there is no shortage of activities to enjoy in Kyrenia, including scuba diving, golf, paragliding and excellent walks along the waterfront and inland. Kyrenia City Centre hotels, a number of which are luxurious five-star resorts, are plentiful given the high volume of visitors that come here.
