Introduction to Kyrenia - Alsancak
Along the northern coast of Cyprus, just six miles down the road from the popular resort town of Kyrenia is Alsancak, a small and serene community of locals and tourists is steadily emerging as a destination in its own right. Known as outer Kyrenia, Alsancak doesn't have the history or waterfront charm of its more established neighbor, but it certainly offers a more localised authentic atmosphere without as much of the tourist bustle of Kyrenia. With mountains on one side and the Mediterranean Sea the other, there are plenty of outdoor activities available for visitors. Alsancak has a tiny village core with a smattering of old houses and shops, but much of the development is happening on its edges, as new hotels and businesses create something of a suburban environment to cater to the steady rise in tourism. Alsancak hotels come in many forms, from five-star resorts to self-catering apartments. If the village gets a bit too sleepy, simply head over to Kyrenia a few minutes away.
