Introduction to Las Tunas, Cuba

The city of Las Tunas is found in the central eastern region of Cuba, within the province of the same name. Officially, the city is named Victoria de Las Tunas, but over the years the name has been shortened by locals to just Tunas. Getting into the city is extremely easy from almost anywhere in Cuba as it rests upon the largest highway on the island - the Carretera Highway. In addition to this highway, there is an airport which services mainly domestic flights between the city and many of the larger Cuban cities, including Havana and Varadero. Additionally, there is a train link to many of the main coastal cities. The city of Las Tunas is situated between Bayamo, Camaguey and Holguin plus many other smaller towns. Baseball is a major sport in the city, and visitors can find their way to the baseball stadium in the area's northeast when games come around. Several of the city's parks are beautiful, including Vincente Garcia Park. In the southern part of the city is a farmers' market where cheap products can be purchased. Las Tunas hotels provide the perfect escape when holidaying in this off-the-beaten-tourist-track city.
