Introduction to Sibenik - Beach
As famous for its historical sites as it is for its idyllic Adriatic coastline, Sibenik is a beach destination with a brain. The Cathedral of St James, just a short walk from the coast, is a UNESCO World Heritage site that took over 100 years to finish, with completion eventually having happened in 1536. There are also four fortresses here including St Nicholas, which is at sea, at the entrance of the main port. The beach area is a good base from which to relax or explore farther afield. The Kornati archipelago, just west, is made up of 150 islands, making it the densest island group in the Mediterranean and therefore straightforward to get around. Away from the coast and just a few miles to the north lies Krka National Park, featuring waterfalls and archaeological remains.
