Introduction to Opatija, Croatia
Opatija is a seaside city at the top end of northern Croatia’s Kvarner Bay. The bay is an inlet of the Adriatic Sea. The Ucka mountain range, north of the city, protects the city from climatic extremes. The temperate weather and warm waters of the bay ensure that Opatija remains a prized holiday destination. Most Opatija hotels are located close to the 19th century pedestrian promenade, Lungo Mare, which links the city’s beaches. Many more hotels in Opatija are in close proximity of the city beach, Slatina. This beach is not far from city attractions such as Villa Angiolina and the medieval Sv Jakova Abbey. The abbey is located in Sv Jakova Park. This park is one of several city parks that are packed with colourful flowers.
