More or less in the middle of Hvar Island on the northern coast, Jelsa is a must-visit for those that have already seen the best of the main town. Aside from its claim to fame as the home of one of only two petrol stations on the island, Jelsa boasts some classic old buildings and a stunning waterfront that have made it a tourism hotspot in its own right. This traditional market town offers idyllic gravel beaches backed with pine forests and among the highest mountains on the island including St Nikola and Hum to the east. Make sure to take a look at the striking cathedral with its tall, white clock tower that looks over the town. Jelsa hotels are varied in terms of price and type, from simple guesthouses to top-end accommodation depending on your budget. And like Hvar Town, there is plenty to do here after dark.
