Introduction to San Jose - Escazu
The city of Escazu, whose full name is San Miguel de Escazu, is located nine kilometres west of Costa Rica’s largest city of San Jose. Once a small coffee farming town, Escazu has become one of Costa Rica’s upscale areas and is home to a cinema which shows English language films, a golf course, and one of Central America’s largest shopping centres. Restaurants and hotels in Escazu are also among the most expensive in Costa Rica, but lower budget Escazu hotels can also be easily found. Many hotels in Escazu, as well as bed and breakfasts, are owned by European and North American expatriates, and at least one bed and breakfast caters specifically to English speaking tourists and only accepts American dollars. Most other hotels in Escazu inclde private baths, fireplaces, kitchens, and tour packages.
