Introduction to San Jose - Airport
For most of the million foreign tourists who come to Costa Rica each year, their first glimpse of this Central American country is Juan Santamaria International Airport. This airport is often called San Jose Airport because it is 20kms from the Costa Rican capital city and only three kilometres from Alajuela, the birthplace of the brave drummer boy for whom the airport was officially named. Juan Santamaria International Airport is not only Costa Rica's first and biggest airport, it is also the second busiest airport in the whole of Central America, with an average annual passenger traffic figure exceeding four million. Several of these passengers stay at San Jose Airport hotels, and diplomatic visitors are free to use the diplomatic receptions room. All domestic flights to other Costa Rican airports use the Sansa Terminal, while all international passengers use the Main Terminal.
