Introduction to Puntarenas - Playa Tambor
The Costa Rican town of Tambor has a great beach and was featured in the TV show Temptation Island. It is located around a picturesque horseshoe shaped bay which frequently attracts whales to the area. Tambor is home to the only airport on the southern Nicoya Peninsula and is also accessible by the Tambor ferry. It is well worth staying a few nights in one of Playa Tambor hotels. It is also a great base to explore the many Pacific coast beaches and car hire is recommended. Many of the hotels in Playa Tambor overlook the beach. A great day trip from Playa Tambor which can easily be arranged through hotels in Playa Tambor is a trip to the Curu National Wildlife Refuge.
