Bogota - walk in La Candelaria and Downtown
A walk in La Candelaria takes you back to the original city of Bogota and includes places of interest including the cathedral and narrow streets that are filled with shops selling handicrafts and items of interest. The area is also home to the Gold Museum that houses over 36,000 items of gold, wood and shell. Although a lovely place to visit care needs to be taken at all times and in particular at night.
Cali - hiking at Lago Calima (Lake Calima)
Just outside of Cali is Lake Calima, a beautiful location for walking or hiking in the hills surrounded by the natural vegetation of the region. Much of the area is being purchased as private property but there are still spectacular views to be found on the many trails around the lake. For the more energetic the lake also offers excellent opportunities for windsurfing or kite surfing.
Cartagena - visit Port, Fortresses and Group of Monuments
The city of Cartagena has been one of the most important locations in the Caribbean for nearly 500 years. Gold shipped from here back to the old country made the city very rich and allowed for the building of stunning architecture. It also required strong fortifications hence the magnificent fortress that was built. Several European styles are reflected in the architecture emphasizing the importance of the region. You will need a couple of days to properly appreciate all that the areas has to offer.
Medellin - be amazed by the architecture of the Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica
The Metropolitan Cathedral Basilica is located in Bolivar Park, in Medellin. It is an amazing example of architecture, with its light and dark gray stone mosaic, facade. The cathedral is made up of over 1 million baked clay bricks, making it the largest structure of its type in the world. Construction of the cathedral took 56 years, and was not completed until 1931. The interior of the church is filled with paintings and large stained glass windows, and is a quiet place to reflect or pray.
