First Communist Congress Museum: is housed in the building where the beginnings of the first revolution began. The exhibits honour the 12 delegates including Mao Zedong and Chen Duxiu who first met here to begin the Communist Congress Party.

Lu Xun's Museum: is dedicated to the memory of Lu Xun, one of China's most prolific writers. Visitors here can find items that influenced the writer’s work including letters, manuscripts, furniture, and photographs. Lu Xun’s ashes are kept at Hongkou Park.

Ohel Moshe Synagogue: the Russians built this synagogue in 1927 and it has been a place of refuge since the mid 1800s to many thousands of people who were being persecuted for their religion. The museum’s exhibits tell the tale of the Jews in the Hongkou area and what happened to them during communist rule.

Shanghai Museum: there are art pieces here that date back many centuries to the Xia, Ming and Qing Dynasties. Other exhibits include ancient ceramics, sculptures, jade relics and bronze items. There are over 20,000 items that have been catalogued by the museum, this includes 10 permanent exhibit areas.
