Shanghai has been called many names in the past including ‘the Paris of China’ and ‘Queen of the Orient’. The city has been the background for many novels with stories about quick riches, gambling, Chinese mafia, missionaries, tycoons, pimps and prostitutes. It is true that Shanghai once encompassed all these aspects but there is also much more to the city.
