Trekking: there are many trekking opportunities with or without guides to be enjoyed in Hong Kong. The plentiful trekking routes allow visitors to choose one that meets with their physical well being. There are more than 60 miles of trekking trails in Kowloon that stretch into the New Territories past the High Island Reservoir and a series of uneven paths on cliffs. It is also possible to hike to the Tai Mo Shan (Big Hat Mountain) which has wonderful views of the Shing Mun Valley.
Walking tours: the Hong Kong Tourism Board offers many free walking tours including Nature Kaleidoscope Walk and Architecture Walk. The best way to explore Hong Kong is to walk and there are several maps and guide books available that provide information on the best roads and routes to follow.
Mountain biking: is becoming a popular activity in Hong Kong and there are many areas to enjoy this activity including Dragon’s Back (near Shek O), Chi Ma Wan and Discovery Bay. There are also rural trails in the Sai Kung and Tai Lam Chung Country Parks that offers spectacular ocean vistas and stunning green forest mountain views. Bikes can be rented on Lantau and other biking areas.
Golf: is offered at a number of golf courses scattered around Hong Kong, many of which offer panoramic views of the city or the harbour. Most golf courses are open to the public only on weekdays.
Swimming: there are several public swimming pools scattered around Hong Kong but most people head towards the beaches to have a swim. The best Hong Kong beaches are at Stanley, Deep Water Bay/Repulse Bay Beach, South Bay Beach, Lo So Shing Beach (Lamma Island), Cheung Sha Upper Beach and Pui O Beach (southern coast of Lantau Island).
Surfing: can be enjoyed at the stunning stretch of beach surrounded by beautiful green hills at Dai Long Wan Beach in Sai Kung Country Park.
