Metro: Hong Kong has an underground Mass Transit Railway (MTR) system that is the fastest and often the most convenient way to get around the city.
Train: the Kowloon-Canton Railway (KCR) links Kowloon to Canton in mainland China. Passengers can connect with the MTR at the main train terminal at Tsim Sha Tsui.
Bus: there are several bus companies offering services in Hong Kong. Unfortunately, many of the buses do not have signs in English making it a little difficult to use. Kowloon Motor Bus, Citybus, New World First Bus and New Lanto Bus offer services right covering the entire city.
Vans: these vehicles carry about 15 passengers and are usually referred to as mini buses or maxicabs by the locals. They are identified by the large stripe that is painted either red or green. The red minibus picks up and drops off passengers wherever the law allows.
Taxis: are widely available, all metered and very efficient. Tipping is not required but it does help to round up the fare to the nearest dollar. Drivers are required to have change for HK$100 but not for more than that so always ensure that you have small change with you.
There are three types of taxi in Hong Kong; red taxis that serve the Island and Kowloon; green taxis serve only the New Territories and the blue taxis which serve only Lantau. All taxis go to the airport.
