Guilin Travel Guide - Attractions
Li River: one of the most impressive sights to see in Guilin, this 437-km majestic river passes through Guilin, Yangshua, Pingle and Zhaping, finally meeting the Xi River in Wulin. Along the river, you can find lush-green hills, beautiful caves and bamboo trees. Taking a cruise along the river is truly a memorable experience.
Elephant Trunk Hill: located at the confluence of Li River and Peach Blossom River in the southwest of the city, the hill is reminiscent of an elephant stretching its trunk to drink water in the river. One of the main landmarks in the area, the Elephant Trunk Hill also boasts remarkable caves: the Water Moon Cave, resembling a full moon drifting on the water and the Elephant Eye Cave.
Folded Brocade Hill: is in the northern part of the city, consisting of Yueshan Hill, Look-on-All-Direction Hill, Crane Peak and Bright Moon Peak. The Bright Moon Peak is the summit of the hill where you can find a charming pavilion called Catch-the-Cloud. Standing on this pavilion, visitors can witness some of the most breathtaking views of the city of Guilin.
The Reed Flute Cave: enjoying a location in the highway of the Guangming Hill, the cave boasts many interesting stalactites, stalagmites, rocks in all strange shapes and a great number of ink inscriptions, dating back to 792 AD during the Tang Dynasty. The name of the cave comes from reeds growing outside the cave, which can be made into flutes. As the cave is illuminated by many coloured lights, the Reed Flute Cave looks like a beautiful palace and is also known as the ‘Art Palace of Nature’.
The Mausoleums of Jing Jiang: about 5kms from the city centre of Guilin, these tombs are situated at the foot of the grand Yao Mountain surrounded by lush-green hills and mountains. The area is divided into two parts: the outer garden and the inner palace. The outer gardens house many stone statues of animals and government officials, believed to guard the tombs of the Ming princes which are located in the inner palace. The Mausoleum of Princes Zhuangjian is the only one open to public.
