Guilin Travel Guide - Activities
Cruises in the Li River: renowned as being one of the most breathtaking areas in the country, the river is best viewed from the cruise. Most cruises start from Zhujiang Wharf, which is about 40 minutes outside of the city. The journey takes about five hours where you will reach an exquisite ancient city of Yangshuo.
The Ling Canal: this charming canal is about 70kms north of Guilin and illustrates the excellent engineering and architectural skills in Chinese society over 2,000 years ago. Taking a boat ride on a wooden punt is a great experience with the boatmen willing to stop wherever you want to take photos.
Longmen Water Cave: located 3kms from the Moon Hill in Longmen village, the Longmen Water Cave is the largest natural cave in Yangshuo. However, the trip into the cave can be quite dangerous as this maze-like cave is very narrow. There are some points where you need to crawl through muddy holes and climb up and down stalagmites using ladders or rope. You should always make sure you have an experienced guide with you. Your efforts will be rewarded when you reach the underground waterfall as you are able to swim in the pool under this breathtaking natural wonder.
Guilin Merryland World: built in 1997, this amusement park is located about one hour from Guilin, boasting a hi-tech theme park with five sections, Merry Town, American Wild West, Dream World, Pirate Village, South Pacific area and Forest area. There are also many shows and entertaining activities. Guilin Merryland World also features a five-star hotel and an open-air resort with 30 wooden cabins.
