Transportation: taking a taxi is the most popular way for many visitors to reach the city with a journey time of around 40 to 60 minutes. Cabs are metered and available outside of the airport. Passengers are advised to have the name of their destination written in Chinese to present to the driver as many of them cannot speak English. A shuttle bus connects the airport with the city and can be accessed from outside of the Arrivals areas of both terminals. The shuttle service follows three different routes into the city with the Xidan route being the most suitable for foreign visitors as it is close to the centre of the city and just a short distance away from the Forbidden City. Some passengers with hotel reservations may find courtesy shuttle services are available to relieve them of the need to negotiate other forms of transportation.
