Introduction to Zhangye, China
The River Heihe runs through the centre of the city of Zhangye, a desert oasis nestled between Mount Qilian and Mount Longshou. Once a major stop on the Silk Road trade route, Zhangye has an array of attractions left as remnants from its days as a centre for international commerce. The largest nirvana Buddha in the country can be found here, in the Giant Buddha Temple. Near Zhangye hotels in the city centre stands the grand Bell and Drum Tower, a delicately carved wood structure based on the famous tower in Xian. Close by are Ganguan Park, designed in the classical style of gardens in Suzhou, and Zhangye Forest Park, a lush wooded refuge containing a lake with a pleasant beach. The city's treasure is its Wooden Pagoda Temple, built nine-storeys high without a single nail or rivet during the Zhou Dynasty. The Relics of Heishui Kingdom are northwest of the city, and Hongyashan Reservoir, further out, has become a popular holiday spot in the summer months. In scenic Sunan Yugur, the Thousand-Buddha Caves of Mati Temple contain over 500 grottoes. The sights of Zhangye will leave visitors with a taste of ancient world splendour.other spellings: zhangyehotels, zhanger hotell, zhang ye hote, shangye hotes, zangye hotle
