One of China's official top tourist destinations is the ancient town of Yueyang, a fascinating mix of history, culture and nature situated along massive Dongting Lake in Hunan Province. Among the cultural highlights here is the famous Pavilion of Prince Teng, one of the top three in southern China. Next door is Yueyang Tower, one of the Three Great Towers of Jiangnan and a truly stunning piece of architecture. The lake itself is also a popular destination, offering water recreation and a pleasant island called Junshan Hill where travellers can stay at its resort. Because Yueyang is such a popular tourist destination, it has an unusually high number of restaurants, bars and shops catering to visitors. Yueyang hotels are all more or less the same, offering a bed and bath without much else in the way of style or amenities. With so much to see and do around this ancient city, however, travellers don't usually spend much time in their rooms anyway.
