Introduction to Yanbian, China
Yanbian is a self-ruling prefecture in Jilin, northeast China, a stone’s throw from the border shared with the secretive state of North Korea. Because of its location and status as an autonomous Korean prefecture, almost two million Chinese-Koreans live and work in this area, but it is also popular with tourists that come and stay in the best Yanbian hotels. Like many cities that aren't well known to those that haven't travelled around China, it offers a few hidden gems in the way of tourist attractions. Scenic city parks can be visited for relaxing walks including Yanji People's Park and Youth Lake Park. The volcanic mountain area of Baekdusan sits just outside the city and offers a number of sightseeing possibilities.
