Taiyuan, on the River Fen, is the capital city of central eastern China’s Shanxi Province. Taiyuan, with a population of more than three million, is a centre for heavy industry, coal production, education and research. A good choice of Taiyuan hotels is located around Yingze Street and Wuyi Square. Taiyuan has several parks with a further selection of Taiyuan hotels either overlooking or very close to the parks. Hotels in Taiyuan include basic traveller’s inns and establishments from two-star up to five-star ratings. While Taiyuan is primarily a business and industrial city it does have some attractive sightseeing destinations. The Twin Pagoda Temple’s ornate pagodas are 400 years old and also the highest pagodas in China. Liu Xiang Lane contains traditional Chinese houses. Other attractions comprise Shaunglin Monastery, Chongshan Monastery and Jinci Temple. Longtan Park and Yinze Park are popular relaxation places. The Liuxiang area contains many of Taiyuan’s shopping outlets. Taiyuan Railway Station is a hub on Shanxi’s rail network and has a few hotel options opposite it.
