Introduction to Qingdao - City Centre
Qingdao is on the eastern coast of China, in Shandong province. It is a large city of around eight million. The transport system here is excellent so getting around the centre is not a problem. Travellers arriving by air can get shuttle buses from the airport to hotels in Qingdao. The Badao commercial district is a popular place to stay, as is near the railway station. This is an interesting Chinese city with a German colonial history. There is still some evidence of the Europeans who once settled here in the architecture. The seaside city draws plenty of national Chinese in the summer, with trips out on the Yellow Sea possible. The Number 1 bathing beach is said to be the largest sandy beach in Asia. The major event is the Beer Festival in August so travellers looking to enjoy and sample the famous Tsing Tso beer should try to visit at this time. The pier, or Zhan Qiao, draws visitors with its aquarium and shops. The Naval Museum is just one of the city’s interesting exhibitions, and includes real warships and details on the Chinese navy.
