Introduction to Pingliang, China
Amid the hills and ravines of the Loess Plateau lies the ancient city of Pingliang. To the west stand the Liupan Mountains, with the historic Mount Kongdong being nearest to the city. Once the ancestral mountain of Taoism and a site of religious harmony among Taoists, Buddhists and Confucians, the mountain is now a popular resort steeped in ancient wonder. There are many famous caves hidden within the dense, misty forests covering the mountainside; in spring, visitors will delight in seeing fallen peach blossoms floating along the Yanzhi River and in the melodious Tanzheng (Playing Zither) Lake. Tourists staying in Pingliang hotels must spend an afternoon strolling through Willow Lake Park, named for the willow catkins that swirl above the lake like summer snow. Right in the city centre, close to Longquan Temple, the park was originally reserved for officials and scholars, but is now open to the public. Southeast of the city at the confluence of the Nei and Jing rivers, the Queen Mother Palace and its grottoes have stood since the early 16th century. Other scenic natural sites near the city include Wulongshan Scenic Area and Yunya Temple Forest Park, each contributing to the quiet beauty that has made Pingliang an integral part of China's earliest history.other spellings: pingliang hote, pinglian hotell, pinglian hote, pinglian hotes
