Introduction to Macau - Taipa
Although Taipa is administratively part of Macau, it is in fact an island which is connected to Macau by three bridges. On display in this part of Macau are plenty of colonial-era buildings, and the Taipa Houses Museum is dedicated to showcasing some of the finer colonial structures, from when the Portuguese controlled the island. The Museum of Taipa is another must-visit to learn about the history of this part of Macau. The island has developed from being a rural community into a planned new town. It is possible to find many places to gamble in this part of Macau, and there are three first-rate casinos along with the Macau Jockey Club, a horse racing circuit which holds daily meetings. Also on the island is Macau International Airport, the only entry point for air passengers. For lovers of the outdoors, the two hills in Taipa offer pleasant locations to hike or cycle and obtain a high vantage point over the rest of Macau. The influx of wealthy tourists to this part of Macau means that Taipa hotels are generally expensive and cheap accommodation hard to find. Visit our Macau Travel Guide
