Introduction to Macau - Macau City
Macau city is located just a short ferry ride from Hong Kong. It is a former Portuguese colony and the city's main sights are buildings from this colonial era. The main landmark is the facade of the former St Paul's church. Part of the UNESCO World Heritage site that covers the historic center, these ruins date to the 16th century. Fisherman's Wharf is a fun amusement park and shopping area. The modern Macau Tower offers great vistas of the peninsula. The centre of the special administrative region is, of course, famous for its casinos and world-class shows. The world-famous casinos are located on the so-called Cotai Strip, including the Wynn and the Venetian, as well as local casinos City of Dreams and Taipa. These casinos are home to great shows, such as the House of Dancing Water show and Cirque du Soleil show. Macau city hotels are primarily casino-related and located on the eastern part of the peninsula.Visit our Macau Travel Guide
