Introduction to Luoyang - Xigong
The district of Xigong holds a few of the best attractions of Luoyang city in south-central China's Henan. The best of them, nature-wise, is the resplendent, 67-hectare Wangcheng Park, the biggest in town. It is particularly enchanting in April, when the peonies are blossoming. In the Ancient Cultural Section you can enjoy exploring models of ancient buildings from the prehistoric Zhou Dynasty (1100 to 221 BC). Indeed, the main garden itself here was built atop the site of an ancient Zhou city. Luoyang styles itself as the hometown and original breeding ground of the peony. The best attraction, culture-wise, right near the park and also in Xigong, is the Luoyang Museum, which is devoted to sharing the old but rather underappreciated city of Luoyang, which was a big centre for Chinese culture in centuries past. Relics from the area are displayed here. They include artefacts from temple and palace sites.
