Introduction to Jinzhou, China
Jinzhou is China's northernmost seaport and an attractive city with historic sites that date back over 1,000 years. Closest to the city centre and easily reachable from Jinzhou hotels, Liaoshen Campaign Memorial Museum hosts an impressive collection of Chinese Civil War artefacts, while its park is filled with cannons and warplanes used in battle. Across from the massive city police station is the famous Guangji Tower, a 13-storey octagonal building constructed during the Liao Dynasty, shortly after the 1st millennium. A short distance out of town is Guanyin Cave, containing the delicate statue of the goddess of mercy. The port of Jinzhou provides access to the Bohai Sea and during parts of the year, a narrow stretch of sand and pebbles known as the Sky Bridge allows visitors to cross to Mount Bijia, a scenic island resort featuring a stunning view from Sanqing Pavilion. The sacred Yiwuulu Mountain has a scattering of temples, pavilions and a fish pool that attract tourists from all over. Jinzhou is the prettiest city on the Liaoning Gulf and a highlight of any traveller's stay in northeast China.
