Introduction to Jinzhong, China
Jinzhong is in the northeastern region of China, in the province of Shanxi. It is both a city and prefecture that is brimming with history and ancient traditions that you can easily explore while staying in the area. The town itself has only a handful of interesting historic sites, but visitors who venture into the surrounding countryside will find plenty of ancient villages with their traditional culture intact. Pingyao, known as Turtle City, is the best example of a preserved ancient city in the area. Its brick city wall and narrow lanes are evocative of Ming-era China. Qiao’s Compound is also a popular spot, providing a look at the living standards of imperial China. The Shuangling Monastery and Mianshan Mountain make excellent day trips from Jinzhong.
