Introduction to Jiangmen, China

Jiangmen is both a city and prefecture in the south of China. It is in the province of Guangdong between the Xijiang River and the Tanjiang River along the southern coast of China. This modern city has a handful of historic buildings and neigbourhoods tucked away amongst the newer concrete buildings that cover most of the city. Once an important port town at the beginning of the 1900s, its charismatic waterfront area has recently been transformed into a trendy dining, shopping and entertainment district popular with tourists. The rest of Jiangmen is typical of most other large Chinese cities, with a high concentration of Chinese amenities and very few international restaurants or bars. Hotels in Jiangmen are concentrated in the city of Pengjiang, with others in the smaller town areas to the east and south. The region surrounding the city has known for its natural hot spring resorts and the historic Gold Mountain Towers located around the town of Kaiping.
