The city of Jiamusi is found in the northeastern province of Heilongjiang, along the Songhua River. The city has a lovely zoo and two nearby nature reserves in local marshes that are home to swans, red-crowned cranes and wild geese. The waters of Jiamusi empty into Fuyuan Port, located northeast of the city, from where tourists can gaze across the water at Russia. Jinjiekou is on the outskirts, bordering rivers and mountains and where the Hezhen people are happy to open their homes and share their culture with visitors. The sun rises earliest in Wusu, a beautiful, wealthy town at the easternmost point of China, not far from Jiamusi. There is much activity on the Sanjiang Plain during the winter months, when the landscape is ripe for hunting and skiing. But Wofo Mountain Ski Resort has snow all year, making it a great escape from the heat when visiting in warmer months.
