Introduction to Harbin - Daoli
Harbin, a large, modern city, is located on the Songhua River in northeastern China and is becoming popular with tourists and business travellers, especially due to its amazing Ice Lantern Show and Ice and Snow Festival. Both of these take place in the severe winter, between January and March each year. One of the most attractive parts of the city is the older district of Harbin Daoli, a popular place to find Harbin hotels. Daoli has a lot to offer the visitor there is a great indoor food market selling all types of fresh produce. Here you can also sample a variety of cheap eats in the dumpling and noodle shops. Across from the market lies St Sophia Church. Built in 1907, just after the completion of the Trans-Siberian rail line, it is the largest Orthodox church in this part of China. The district also boasts a large variety of bars, clubs and restaurants, including some famous dumpling restaurants, along with a variety of shopping venues, including Churin Department Store, housed in an old building that also contains a shop that sells the famous Churin sausage and bread baked in the Russian style. The district is home to the largest public outdoor ice arena in Harbin, with facilities for speed skating and ice hockey plus a children∈s park.
