Introduction to Guangzhou - Dongshan
Guangzhou's Dongshan district is located on the northern banks of the Pearl River. This district was merged into the Yuexiu district in 2005. Known as the cultural and political centre of Guangzhou, this district is home to the Guangdong provincial government and the city government offices. Centrally located is the Zhong-Shan Memorial Hall, which was built in 1931 to commemorate Sun Yat-sen. Another attraction is the Sanyuan Palace, which dates back to the Jing Dynasty. The main park in this district is the People's Park. The park occupies the site that used to house residences for dignitaries and is known as where Sun Yat-sen advocated his democratic theories. To see one of the biggest Buddha statues in China, head to the Giant Buddha Temple on Huifu Road. The temple actually has three large Buddha statues.
