Introduction to Guangzhou - Baiyun
A beta world city, primary national transportation hub and major trading port on the Pearl River Delta, Guangzhou's Baiyun district is China's third largest city, with over 12 million inhabitants. The Chinese city is best known as the location of the former Guangzhou International Airport, now relocated to the city's Huadu district. Guangzhou, historically known in the West as Canton, lies in southern China's Guangdong province and is its provincial capital. It's the closest major city to Hong Kong and Macau and forms an urban triangle with the two tourism destinations. History buffs will love this spot, with its back streets behind the high-rise cityscape, crowded with traditional homes and people living traditional lives at a slower pace. Its long maritime heritage is still evident, with Liwan district, the Old Quarter and Baiyun, a more rural area with the mountain overlooking the streets.
