Introduction to Dandong, China
There aren't many towns closer to North Korea than the Chinese town of Dandong. China's biggest border town sits along the Yalu River and is best known for its provocative Yalu River Bridge that spans just half of the river. Most visitors to Dandong come for a glimpse into reclusive North Korea and its village of Xinyizhou, across the river. Yalujiang Park offers the best views into North Korea and is where visitors can walk out onto the broken bridge. Overlooking the town is a large museum and memorial to the Chinese volunteer fighters who fought in the Korea War. The museum has a nice selection of interesting bilingual exhibits. The Hushan Great Wall, a section of the Great Wall of China, runs parallel to the river in Dandong and is open to the public. Most of the restaurants line the street facing the river.
