Introduction to Beijing - Shijingshan
Beijing's Shijingshan is an area on the western edge of the Chinese capital. It is the location of Shijingshan Amusement Park, which is aimed at young children and has caused controversy by featuring many characters and attractions that are found in Disney amusement parks. Nevertheless, it is possible to spend a day or two here taking in the rides and shows. Elsewhere in Shijingshan is the Babaoshan Revolutionary Cemetery. This Taoist graveyard has a rich history since it is not only a cemetery for revolutionary heroes and important government officials, but a place of rest for previous emperors' concubines. There is a temple on site. There are some other low-key temples in the area, but visitors are advised to head into Beijing using the train from South Shijingshan Station for sightseeing and things to do. Shinjingshan hotels are not as expensive as those in central Beijing, but are comfortable and usually close to excellent local eateries. Visit our Beijing Travel Guide
