Introduction to Beijing - Dongcheng
Beijing's Dongcheng is a central district within China's capital city, Beijing. It is located in the eastern part of the city and is home to some of the best attractions in the capital. There are several UNESCO World Heritage sites in this part of the city including the awe-inspiring Forbidden City and the infamous Tiananmen Square, where hundreds of dissidents were killed in 1989. Of national importance is the mausoleum of Mao Zedong, the final resting place of the Chairman. Another important landmark is the Temple of Heaven, a complex of religious buildings of the Taoist order. A fun eating experience can be had at Donghuamen Night Market, where stall upon stall offer the best Chinese delicacies. If only visiting one museum, it should be the National Museum of China, which has one of the best collections of Chinese antiquities in the country. There are huge number of Dongcheng hotels on offer, with most located between Douban Hutong and Jiaodaokous streets.Visit our Beijing Travel Guide
