Introduction to Beijing - Changping
Halfway to the Great Wall on the northern outskirts of the Chinese capital, Beijing's Changping is a historic district that is well placed for exploring the best of the city. From here, it is just 20 minutes to Badaling, one of the most popular stretches of the Great Wall of China and certainly the most accessible from the capital. Much closer are a number of Ming Dynasty tombs and Mangshan Mountain National Park, located in a scenic area for walking, beside a lake and a golf course. Baifuquan Park is within walking distance of Changping and features another series of lakes which look like a snowy fairytale in winter. The China Aviation Museum, which features a number of aircraft including Chairman Mao's plane which visitors can board, is a great half-day trip for fans of flying. Changping hotels are mainly mid-range, at prices well below those found closer to Tiananmen Square and the centre.Visit our Beijing Travel Guide
