Introduction to Baotou, China
In the north of China, close to the border with Mongolia, is the city of Baotou. It lies around 260 miles to the northwest of Beijing, in the Chinese region of Inner Mongolia, and its name means 'Deer City'. Most of the hotels in Baotou are near the major highways that pass through the city, and east of the Kundulun River. The city is primarily used by tourists as a base for exploring the nearby Gobi Desert, which is shared with Mongolia. As a producer of steel, the city is largely industrial and avoid of major tourist attractions. Visitors may like to pass by the Deer Monument, a tower placed at the centre of a roundabout and topped with a sculpture of deer. The city is connected by rail to Beijing and has two rail stations.
