Introduction to Aksu, China
In the massive western region of Xinjiang, the oasis of Aksu (Akesu) is located just inland from China's borders with Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, giving it a unique cultural flavour. The verdant city is surrounded by the Taklamakan Desert to the south and the Tianshan Mountains in the north. Explore the Mystic Grand Canyon of the Tianshan Mountains, famous for its weathered russet rocks and the mystifying Aay Grotto, or venture to Tumur Peak, the highest mountain on the range and an important water source for the city, which offers stunning views of the desert and the neighbouring countries. One of the great sights in the predominately Muslim city is the impressive Kuqa Mosque, constructed in the 15th century. Aksu hotels can facilitate arrangements to nearby Kizil to see the beautiful murals and statues in the Thousand-Buddha Caves. Beautiful folk songs and dances are performed at the annual Qiuci Culture and Tourism Festival during the summer, and traditional Uygur costumes, boots, caps and belts are sold year-round. The blend of cultures and religions found in Aksu makes it a significant stop on a tour of western China.other spellings: akesu otel, aksu hotell, akso hote, aksuhotels, aksu hotle, aksu hotes
