Introduction to Santa Cruz, Chile

Santa Cruz is relatively close to the capital city of Santiago and it is a grwing centre of the Chilean wine industry. The Ruta del vino is the 'wine route' and tourist tours and getaways ply this route every day of the year. Santa Cruz hotels are sometimes located in the wineries themselves and many visitors enjoy the convenience of a day or two wine tasting with a driver and a comfortable room to return too. Most of these establishments have their own restaurants and the wine lists at these places are extensive, as could be expected. The Colchagua Museum is a major attraction and its collection of garments, artifacts and tools used in rural Chile are well kept. There are also antique cars here and some displays from pre-Columbian antiquity. The disused railway station is now a central part of civic life and some properties overlook the grandly ornate old building.
