Things to do in Channel Islands
Guernsey - visit the well known summer retreat Herm's Chapel
Herms Chapel in Guernsey is unusual in that although it is a chapel that has been used for worship since the 11th century it is unconsecrated so therefore belongs to no one denomination. Parts of the chapel have been renovated with new stained glass windows depicting local life. The unusual lay out of the chapel is a result of the early monks not wanting to be observed in their prayer by the local community.Jersey - looking around States Chamber
A day looking around the States Chamber in Jersey is like stepping back in history. There has been a chamber used for important business on the site since the 12th century and a series of renovations since then have all left their mark. Very little has changed in the last 100 years and many of the heraldic marks in the chamber go back over 800 years. Pride of place goes to the Royal Mace, a gift from Charles II in recognition of their hospitality during his exile, and one of the best examples of this work from the 17th century.Introduction to Channel Islands
Although the popularity of the Channel Islands reaches its peak during the UK summer, with tourists from all over heading here, there is a great choice of places to stay, either in the countryside close to outdoor areas and great hiking spots, or in the middle of the islands' main cities, like Saint Helier in Jersey, the largest of these islands. Hotels in the Channel Islands can be found on all the five main islands of Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney, Herm and Sark. All islands offer stunning natural landscapes with beaches, caves and spectacular coastlines - Sark without any motorised traffic - perfect for walking and hiking. The main cities on Jersey and Guernsey are filled with the usual mix of shops and places to eat and all the islands feature evidence of their long history, with castles, ruins, museums, stately homes and fabulous gardens.other spellings: channel island hotels, channelislands otel, hote chanel islands, channel isl hotell
