Formally known as the Resort Municipality of Whistler, this popular ski resort in British Columbia, Canada's westernmost province, has come a long way since its humble beginnings as a small logging town named Alta Lake. The first ski resort opened in the area in 1967 as part of a failed 1968 Winter Olympics bid.
