Introduction to Whitby - City Centre

Whitby is a Canadian town of more than 111,000 people, located in the Durham Region of Southern Ontario. It is located on the shore of Lake Ontario, meaning that its Waterfront Park is a popular destination with local visitors from Toronto, just 30 miles away. The town centre is set back from the lake, mostly to the north of the McDonald-Cartier Freeway. Many Whitby City Centre hotels are located in the areas around Dundas Street and Brock Street, alongside shopping centres, bars and restaurants. On Centre Street, guests can visit the Centennial Building, created in the 1850s and one of many historical structures in Whitby. Nowadays, this historic building is home to the Courthouse Theatre, as well as host to other community events. City-centre accommodation also offers easy access to the Station gallery, on Henry Street. As the name suggests, it is housed in a former Victorian station and is a must-see for art lovers. Travellers can get here by train from Toronto, courtesy of GO Transit, and Via Rail. Alternatively, there are flights to the nearby Oshawa Municipal Airport, around 10 minutes' drive from the town centre.
