Introduction to Tofino, Canada

Located close to the US border in Canada's western state of British Columbia, Tofino is a small town on picturesque Vancouver Island that draws crowds of visitors each summer. Right on the Pacific coast, the town has a sandy beach with good surfing and opportunities for whale watching. The coastline here is on Clayoquot Sound, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve - a sign of the natural beauty for which Tofino is renowned. A short drive north, natural hot springs that eventually spill out into the ocean and numerous hiking routes are available. A good destination for outdoor activities, the town offers kayaking - available through local tour operators. Many of the key activities are only available during the summer, however, with many facilities closed during the long winters. Demand for Tofino hotels is therefore greatest between May and September, when prices generally escalate significantly and vacancies can be scarce.
