Introduction to Smithers, Canada

Right in the centre of British Columbia, in western Canada, Smithers is an attractive town known for its Alpine-style shop fronts and distinct identity. Cultural events are prominent here in keeping up with the town's musical tradition, epitomised by the Mid-Summer Music Festival held annually at the end of June. This event often attracts big name bands and singers from across North America. Many of the pubs and even parks in town also host live music events. Smithers has its own golf course on the edge of town and like much of Canada, there are a number of lakes that surround the area and a river that marks the eastern edge of town, meaning it is a scenic spot for walking. Smithers hotels are increasing in number all the time, with several options available in the town centre, almost all of which are on Yellowstone Highway.
