Introduction to Saskatoon - City Centre
The largest city in Canada's flat province of Saskatchewan is Saskatoon, one of the only signs if civilisation in this somewhat bleak region. The city centre is spread out along the river, with a fair mix of low-rise office buildings and historic structures. While not really a travel destination on its own, Saskatoon certainly contains a decent range of amenities to keep its residents entertained. Among the architectural highlights here, the Bessborough Hotel is definitely worth a visit to admire its massive structure and lush grounds. The Mendel Art Gallery is next door, featuring more than 5,000 works of art. The cultural arts thrive here, evident in the impressive Remai Arts Centre at River Landing, the main theatre and music hub for the downtown area. For a taste of nature to go with the urban scene, be sure and wander the excellent paved path of the Meewasin Valley Trail that follows the river and passes right through the city centre. Saskatoon City Centre hotels are always a good choice, as there is so much to see and do along the river in the downtown core.
